Hydra are not always attached to substrate and can move from one spot to another , either by gliding along on the basal disc or by somersaultingalong. ... Locomotion of Hydra is by various methods like swimming, gliding looping. However,somersaulting is the fastest method ofmovement.

These are the two ways of locomotion in Hydra, both are different from each other.

looping is the most common type of locomotion in hydra in which hydra makes 180°
angles while moving. it is also known as caterpillar movement or leech movement . While is Somersaulting, hydra makes 360° angle to move. it is the faster locomotion.
