The flat band diagram cannot be distinguished between a direct and an indirect band gap. The reason is because, the energy gap between filled valance band and empty conduction band is shown or presented by the diagram of a flat band.

In some cases when the gap between the direct and indirect band gap semiconductor are found to be of equal magnitude, then the gap of energy between them are same, and hence it is not possible at such situations to detect any distinctions.
