There were no ghosts inside the ruins. Since
it was dark, Suresh, Usha, and Binya could not see each other. When someone or
something fell on her, Usha stumbled. She picked herself and bumped into
something again. She screamed in fear. This was acknowledged by another scream
and a shout calling out to her. Usha recognized the voice and called out to the
boys. All of them assembled at a common spot, each one quite happy and relieved
to be in the company of the other two.
The two boys had come searching for Usha who had not yet returned. However, they were forced to spend the night there as the storm had not yet settled. At the crack of dawn, they stepped out and resumed their way home. As they walked away, Usha turned back to look at the ruins. Reminded about the previous day’s experience and thinking that there were ghosts, she wondered if she saw someone waving out and saying Good Bye. But, it was actually windy and it was just the plum tree swaying itself and the sound of the wind that appeared to tell them Good Bye.
