Is the term 344 belongs to the AP-5,2,9..

The term 344 does not belong to the given AP.

  • The given series is -5,2,9,.....
  • In the above given series, first term (a) is -5.
  • Common difference (d) = 2-(-5) = 7
  • Now we have to find whether the term 344 belongs to the given AP or not.
  • We have formula to find the n^{th} term of AP.

t_n = a + (n-1)d

  • Now substituting t_n = 344 and evaluating n, if n comes out ot be an integer then the number belongs to the AP else it does not belong to AP.

344 = -5  + (n-1)7

349 = (n-1)7

49.85 = n-1

n = 50.85

  • As n is not an integer, the number does not belong  to the given AP.
