More energy is stored in the producer level i.e., in plants. As plants gets consumed to primary level animals and those to secondary level animals the energy reached to higher levels decreases gradually.

It is because energy gets consumed up by lower levels in survival during the activities essential for sustainence of life, and thus when they get eaten up by higher levels, the energy left after using energy in life essential activities reaches further which is lesser and gets lesser above that.

The original source of energy for most living organisms are plants.
