From definition, acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Now, velocity, being a vector, has two components - magnitude and direction - and altering any one or both of these results in a change of velocity, which in turn is an acceleration. Now, back to the case of uniform circular motion. At every instance, the particle or body moving along the circular, though has a constant speed - magnitude component of the velocity remains constant, the direction component is changing always, at each point on its track. Thus, it is an accelerated motion, even though the speed is uniform.
