Vertebrates are a subphylum of Chordates whose notochords are surrounded vertebrae (that is, protected in the spinal column). All birds, fish, mammals and reptiles belong in this phylum.

Vertebrates come under the phylum Chordata. We can say that Vertebrata is the subphylum of Chordata. The group of animals have notochord developed into vertebral column. The pisces, amphibia, reptilia , aves and mammalia come under Vertebrata
