Yes water is amphoteric in nature as:---
●Water is an amphoteric substance as it act as acid in some reactions and as base in some other reactions.
●According to bronsted lowry concept of acid and base an acid is one which donates proton while base is one which accepts proton.
1】Water as base:--
Water has an oxygen atom with two unpaired electron so when reacted with acid hcl oxygen donates two electron to chlorine and accepts proton from hcl so here water act as a base.
2】Water as an acid:--
Water on reaction with amonia donates a proton to nh3 by accepting its electron hence as water donates proton so act as acid.
