Given:

Two linear equation: x + y = 1 and 2x + 3y = 3

To Find:

If x = 1 and y = 0 is the solution

Explanation:

There are 2 methods to solve these simultaneous equations

  • Elimination Method
  • Substitution Method

Presenting here will be the Substitution Method

Solution

Equations:

x + y = 1       -------------------- [ 1 ]

2x + 3y = 3      ---------------- [ 2 ]

From equation  [ 1 ]:

x + y = 1

x = 1 - y  ---------------- [ 3 ]

Substitute [ 3 ] into  [ 2 ]:

2( 1 - y) + 3y = 3

2 - 2y + 3y = 3

y + 2 = 3

y = 1

Substitute y = 1 into equation [ 1 ]:

x + (1) = 1

x + 1 = 1

x = 0

\boxed {\text{No, x = 1 and y = 0 IS NOT the solution} }
