Yogurt and curd are almost the same thing. Curd is generally the name preferred in South-Asian countries, whereas yogurt is used in Western countries. However, yogurt is also what sweetened curd is referred to as.

But the difference lies in their method of preparation too.

Yogurt is prepared by fermenting milk using certain kinds of bacteria. The bacteria cause the lactose in the milk t ferment, which gives the product it's acidic yet tangy taste.

Curd is prepared by curdling the milk. Adding edible acidic substances such as lemon juice or vinegar will cause the milk to curdle and separate into two parts. The liquidy part is called as 'whey' and the solids are known as 'curd'

Yoghurt is also like curd. Yoghurt tastes differently from that of curd.

Yoghurt is prepared by fermentation by yeast or other bacteria. It is prepared in large scale. Yoghurt does not get spoilt so quickly as our domestic curd does.  Also yoghurt is more hygienic as it is prepared more like in a lab. Yoghurt smells less sour. Further, fat controlled yoghurt is preferred by people who are on diet or who want to thin down.

Curd is prepared by adding a little curd into warm milk. The lactic acid in milk is fermented by lactobacillus. The taste and quality of milk-turned-curd depends on the curd that was added.
