Isopropyl benzene on air oxidation in presence of dilute acid gives phenol (C6H5OH).

The reaction of production of phenol from isopropyl benzene is called Cumene process. it is an industrial process.

In this process Benzene reacts with propylene in presence of oxygen and forms phenol and acetone.

C6H6         +  C3H2       +     O2     →      C6H5OH  + C3H6O

Benzene        Propylene       Oxygen      Phenol         Acetone
