The sulphuric acid present in the acid rain causes the marble composed of insoluble calcium carbonate to be washed off as calcium sulphate (CaSO4), leading to the deterioration of such a splendid piece of architecture. CaCO3 (s) + H2SO4 (aq)→ CaSO4 (aq) + H2O (l)+ CO2 (g) cheers!!!
