It is 260km from Patna to Ranchi by air and 320km by road. An aeroplane takes 30 minutes to go from Patna to Ranchi where as a deluxe bus takes 8 hours a} Fimd the average speed of the plane b) Find the average speed of bus c) Find the average velocity of plane and d) Find the average velocity of bus. Solution:

A) average speed of plane:
Distance from Patna to Ranchi =260km
Time taken =30min=30/60=0.5hrs
Average speed= Total distance/ Time
=260/0.5
=2600/5=520 km/hr

b) Average speed of bus:
Distance =320km
time=8hrs
Average speed = Total distance/ time
=320/8=40 km/hr

c) Average velocity of Plane :

Average velocity= Displacement/time
Displacement of plane =260 km[ ∵ it is straight path]
Displacement of plane=260/0.5=520 km/hr and direction is from Patna to Ranchi straight.

d) Average velocity of bus=260/8=32.5km/hr and direction is from Patna to Ranchi straight.

 (a) Vavg of plane (Distance / Time) = 260/0.5 = 520 km/hr......30min=1/2=0.5

 (b) Vavg of bus = 320 / 8 = 40 km/hr.

(c)avg velocity of plane=260/.5=520km/hr

d) Straight path distance between plane to Ranchi is equal to the displacement of bus. ∴

Velocity = V ⃗ave = 260/8 = 32.5 km/hr.
