answer 1:

political parties fill political offices and exercise political power but they do this by performing a series of important functions.
some of those functions are:
◆ they contest elections: people form a party and select candidate which contests elections. in many countries the candidates are selected by the supporters and members of particular party but in India the candidates are selected by the major leaders of that party.
◆ they prepare manifesto: the voters get attracted to those political parties which are going to fulfill their demands. the political parties write down all the policies that they are going to make for the people in order to gain maximum attention of voters.
◆ they form government: when a political party gets maximum votes it forms the government. now it's time for it to work according to all of those promises that it wrote in the manifesto.
◆ they shape public opinion: in a democratic country people Express their problems and demands through strikes or hartals.
the government has to listen to people and implement laws accordingly.
◆ role of opposition: there are other parties which oppose the work of the government in this way the democratic country becomes even more democratic and it can help in the development of country. the opposing parties keep on criticizing government's work which helps in improvement of the existing schemes or laws.

answer 2:
--------------
political parties need to face and overcome a number of challenges in order to remain effective instruments of democracy of such challenges are:
◆ dynastic succession: in many of the parties it happens that the friends and relatives of the people who are there in the government get the opportunity to get into the elections because of which people who are capable of winning the elections are deprived of these chances.
◆ money and muscle power: most of the times we say that the voters are tortured to get votes sometimes they are even bribed. many times the members of political parties play dirty tricks by providing alcohol to the voters before they cast their votes in this way they influence them and tell them they should give vote to only their party.
◆ lack of choices:most of the parties prepare manifestos in which they write about the policies that they are going to make for the people but these promises are mostly similar because of which people find it hard to cast vote to one of the party.
here are some examples:
• indira gandhi and rahul gandhi have got positions in politics. ( dynastic succession )
• people find it really hard to choose from BJP and congress. ( both are national parties and have similar promises )
