Answer:

In a democratic nation, celebrity status is considered to be a reward for one's success. However, their rights are often encroached by media, which can be categorized as:

•Personality/Moral Rights

•Privacy Rights

•Merchandising Rights

If appointed the president of South African Press Association (SAPA), the measures that I would implement are:

•Celebrity rights are a confluence of dignity and property rights, and one cannot be implemented in the absence of the other. Thus, law should guarantee protection of both the aspects.

•Copyright law is a good way to protect the moral rights of author or performer. Representation of their work in any manner which is harmful to their reputation would be considered as a punishable offence.

•Trademark law, where using the identity or name of the celebrity falsely in connection to the matter or product they are not involved with.

•Privacy rights focused towards the invasion of celebrities' privacy

•Fame is a kind of merchandise and this should be secured under the merchandise rights.
