It is common that government revise fares from time to time based on
as inflation and different types of vehicles like auto Rickshaw, Taxi, Radio, Cab etc, the auto
charges in a city comprise of a fixed charge together with the charges for distance covered
study the following situations.
Situation-1 In a city A, for a journey of 10 Km, the charges paid is Rs. 75 and for a journey
of 15 km, the charges paid is Rs.110.
Situation-II in a city B, for a journey of 8 Km, the charges paid is Rs. 91 and for a journey of
14 km, the charges paid is Rs. 145.
Answer the following questions:
Refer situation-1
(a) If the fixed charges of auto rickshaw be Rs x and the running charges be Rs. Y km/hr.
The pair of linear equations representing the situation is :
(1) x +10y=100 (ii) x + 10 y = 75 (iii) 10x+y=110 (iv) 10x+y =75
X+15y = 75
x+15y = 110 15x+y = 75 15x+y = 110
(b) A person travels a distance of 50 km. The amount be has to pay is:
(0) Rs. 155
(ii) Rs. 255
(iii) Rs. 355
(iv) Rs. 455
Refer situation-11
(c) The pair of linear equations representing this situation is:
(1) X +8y=91 (ii) 8x + y = 91 (iii) x+y=91
(iv) 8x+y = 145
x+14 y = 145
14x+y = 145 14x+y = 145
14x+y = 91
(d) What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 30 Km?
(i) Rs. 185 (ii) Rs. 289
(iii) Rs. 275
(iv) Rs. 305
(e) What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 25 km.
(1) Rs. 160
(ii) Rs. 280
(iii) Rs. 180 (iv) Rs. 260
