Answer:

[√10 ± √6] / 2

x = 2                ;                      x = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

x+\frac{1}{x} =\sqrt{10} \\\\Taking LCM\\\\\frac{x^{2} +1}{x} =\sqrt{10} \\\\x^{2} +1=\sqrt{10} x\\\\x^{2} -\sqrt{10} x+1=0

Using Quadratic formula,

x = [-b ± √b² - 4ac] / 2a

x = [-(-√10) ± √(√10)² - 4(1)(1)] / 2(1)

x = [√10 ± √(10 - 4)] / 2

x = [√10 ± √6] / 2

x = (√10 + √6) / 2                  x = (√10 - √6) / 2

x = √16 / 2                             x = √4 / 2

x = 4/2                                   x = 2 / 2

x = 2                                       x = 1
