The most remote island in the world, under the dependency of Norway, is the Bouvet Island (Bouvetoya in Norwegian language).
It is an uninhabited, volcanic island, about 2,200 kilometres, southwest of the coast of South Africa and about 1,700 kilometres north of Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. The island which is 90% glacial, has an ice-filled inactive volcano in its centre. The total area of Bouvet Island is 49 square kilometres.
