1)propene is an unsymmetrical alkenes when it reacts with HBr Be attaches to the carbon containing least no of Hydrogen ( in prop-1-ene the first carbon has two Hydrogen and second carbon has 1 hydrogen) thus Br attaches to 2 carbon forming 2-bromopropane. this rule is called as MARKONIKOV RULE

2) when the same compound react with the same reagent in the presence of benzoyl peroxide Br attaches to the 1 carbon thus forming bromopropane.this rule is called as ANTIMARKONIKOV RULE
