Step-by-step explanation:

0.4x + 0.3y = 1.7

0.7x - 0.2y = 0.8

multiply both equations by 10

4x + 3y = 17 => 4x =17-3y => x = (17-3y)/4

7x - 2y = 8

Therefore put value of x

7(17-3y)/4 -2y = 8

119 - 21y -8y = 32

119-32= 29y

87=29y

y=3

After solving

7x-2y=8

7x-6=8

7x=14

x=2
