Given:

Coordinate of point p on number line is 5.

To Find:

What are the co- ordinate of points on the number line which are the at a distance of 8 units from p.​

Solution:

it is given that - Coordinate of point p on number line is 5.

Now, there will be 2 points on different side of P which are at a distance of 8 units from P.

Let, R and Q be the points on right and left sides of P, each at a distance of 8 units from the point P.

The co-ordinate of point R will be larger and coordinate of point Q will be smaller in comparison to point P.

Now, d(P,R)=8

so, coordinate of R - coordinate of P=8

∴ coordinate of R = 8 + coordinate of P = 8 + 5 = 13

Also, d(Q,P)=8

so, coordinate of P - coordinate of Q = 8

∴ coordinate of Q = coordinate of P - 8 = 5 - 8 = -3

Hence, the coordinate point of the required points on the number line which are at a distance of 8 units from the point P are 13 and -3.
