In single celled organisms , the organisms only reproduce asexually by simple nuclear fission and hence the organisms are all alike.

Variation is never necessary to identify the mate and attract the opposite gender. Since the multi-cellular organisms reproduce asexually , it is important for the multi-cellular organism to attract mates and hence variation is necessary.

In single celled organisms , they do not reproduce sexually and hence they do not need to attract opposite gender .

Hence variation is not compulsary in them

For example, if the temperature of water increases suddenly, then most of the bacteria living in that water would die.

☆☆However, if these variants were not there, then the entire species of bacteria would have been destroyed. Thus, these variants help in the survival of the species.
