Let' s  say Jack's one day work =  1/16

Paul's one day work = 1/24

Hari's one day work = 1/z

combined  one day work of all three together = 1/8

so  1/16  + 1/24  + 1/z = 1/8

  5/48  + 1/z= 1/8

1/z= 1/8 -  5/48

1/z=  (6 - 5) /48 =  1/48

Hari can complete the work  in 48 days

Answer : 48 days

Jake can dig the well in 16 days

⇒ 1 day = 1/16 of the work

Paul can dig the well in 24 days

⇒ 1 day = 1/24 of the work

Jake, Paul and Hari can dig the well in 8 days

⇒ 1 day = 1/8 of the work

Find the amount of work Hari can do in a day:

1 day = 1/8 - 1/24 - 1/16 = 1/48 of the work

Find the number of days needed:

1/48 of the work = 1 day

48/48 of the work = 1 x 48 = 48 days

Answer: Hari needs 48 days to dig the well if he works alone.
