Water cultivation, a water based based method in which plant roots are suspended in a water solution which should be nutrient and oxygen rich.

Explanation:

There is a relatively large pool of nutrient-rich water for growing plant, pH, EC and temperature buffering, which ensures that these system components do not fluctuate.

In water cultivation, plants roots are submerged in a solution of nutrients, with the stem and upper parts of plants kept above the solution. The key concerns for this method are: availability of an appropriate container, suspension of the plants above water, availability of an appropriate nutrient solution and adequate aeration of the water solution. There are several types of containers that can be used-cement troughs, glass pots, earthenware crocks, metal containers or fibreglass tanks.

The plants grown with water culture are rich in nutrient and oxygen, as Oxygen is pumped through an air pump into the tank or container, and then forced through an air block. The oxygen helps the plant to absorb the full nutritional amount, resulting in rapid, productive plant growth.

There are several advantages of water cultivation including:

  1. Aerating the roots in water culture increases the absorption of water and enhances the growth of cells inside the plants.
  2. There is no need for much fertiliser as the plants are suspended in nutrients from the deep water community.
  3. The hydroponic systems are inexpensive, simple and need little maintenance.
