jams/ jellies have sugar in them then why food preservatives are added though sugar act as a preservative

Jams and Jellies are the food items which are easily spoiled. Even though they have sugar in them it is for the sweet taste more over sugar is added to preserve them from micro organisms...

We add other chemical preservatives because sugar can only preserve a food item for 1 to two year but chemical preservatives have the potential to preserve a item for 2 to 3 years . There is not much difference . Hope this will help.
