Option C i.e Japan wanted raw materials and natural resources is the correct answer.

Japan was facing economic crises during the period owing to high tariffs imposed on their goods by United States, China and other countries which were large markets for Japanese goods. Trade was the backbone of japan's economy and without it,she had no way to feed her people and maintain the army. So japan thought that the only way to feed her people is to create an empire by force and thus attacked Manchuria on the pretext of sabotage of their railway line in Manchuria by Chinese army.
