Answer :-

  • Jay's age = 20 years
  • Jay's father's age = 40 years

Given :-

  • Jay’s father is twice as old as Jay. In 20 years Jay will be two-thirds as old as his father

To Find :-

  • Present ages of both.

Solution :-

Let

  • Present age of Jay be x
  • Present age of Jay's father be 2x

After 20 years

  • Jay's age = x + 20
  • Jay's father age = 2x +20

Jay's age x + 20 is 2/3 of his father's age 2x + 20 in 20 years.

According to question :-

⇒ x + 20 = 2/3 (2x + 20)

⇒ x + 20 = 4x/3 + 40/3

⇒ 20 - 40/3 = 4x/3 - x

⇒ 60 - 40/ 3 = x/3

⇒ 20/3 = x/3

⇒ x = 20

Now

  • Present age of Jay = x = 20 years
  • Present age of Jay's father = 2 × 20 = 40 years

Hence, age of each are 20 years and 40 years.
