Jayashree's speed had improved by 42 sec after practice.

• Given,

Time in which Jayashree could swim a particular length before practice = 3 min 22 sec

We know that, 1 min = 60 sec

=> 3 min = 3 × 60 sec

Or, 3 min = 180 sec

Therefore, 3 min 22 sec = 180 sec + 22 sec = 202 sec

• Given,

Time in which Jayashree could swim the same length after practice = 2 min 40 sec

Again, 2 min = 2 × 60 sec

=> 2 min = 120 sec

Therefore, 2 min 40 sec = 120 sec + 40 sec = 160 sec

• Now, improvement in Jayashree's time = Time taken by her before practice -  Time taken by her after practice

=> Improvement in Jayashree's time = 202 sec - 160 sec

= 42 sec

• Therefore, Jayashree had improved her time by 42 sec.
