Total Jen has = 13 1/8  + 21 3/4

= 13 + 1/8  + 21 + 3/4

= 13 + 21  + 1/8 + 3/4

= 34 +  1/8  + 6/8

= 34 + 7/8

= 34 7/8

Kelsey has a rope that is 35 1/2 feet long.

35 1/2 > 34 7/8

Kelsey has more rope

35 1/2   - 34 7/8

= 34 + 1 + 1/2 - 34 - 7/8

=   8/8 + 4/8  - 7/8

= 12/8  - 7/8

= 5/8
