let his monthly income be 'x'

jhon spends 45% of income on food = 45%(x) = 0.45x

he spends 30% of income on transport = 30%(x) = 0.3x

part of income left = x - 0.45 - 0.3x = 0.25x

amount left = 4500

0.25x = 4500

x = 4500/0.25 = 18000 = monthly income
