Jim, Dan and David share some sweets in the ratio 3:2:1. Jim gets 27 sweets. How many sweets are there altogether?

3:2:1=3x+2x+!x

sweets with jim=27

3x=27

x=27/3=9

thus sweets with dan=2x=2*9=18

thus sweets with david=1x=1*9=9

thus total no: of sweets=27+18+9
