Jim the Joiner buys 2 lengths of wood each measuring 3m in length.
From the first length he cuts a piece 1.4m long and a piece 1.2m long.
From the second length he cuts a piece 1.35m long and a piece 1.6m long.
What is the total length of the wood that he has left over?

Answer:

There are 100 cm in 1 m.

So with that, if you put 4.5 m in cm you get 450 cm of ribbon.

Then divide 450 by 4.5 to see how many times you can take out 4.5 cm from the amount you have.

450/4.5 = 100

So you can get 100 pices of ribbon each 4.5 cm from 4.5 m of ribbon
