Jimmy had twice as many apples as bananas, 5 more pears than bananas, how many of each fruit did jimmy have?

Answer:

So let Jimmy's  apples be 2x

bananas be  x

pears be  x+5  

Total number Fruits  

= 2x+x+x+5

= 4x+5

i.e If  x  is one,

4 (1) +  5 =  9

(x  can be any value )
