She went to see the captain in 1948, but was refused as the captain did not take 16 year old Joan seriously. However, when she went again in 1949, the captain agreed seeing her eagerness. 

Joan joined as a military escort.

To meet Dauphin she needed the permission of Robert (captain squire) and even a letter from him, saying that he has sent Joan. She asked captain to give her a horse and Armour and soldiers so that Dauphin would not consider Joan just as a normal girl but, also someone important from the army as the captain gave her the permission.
