distance=7+5=12kms
let displacement be x
x^2=7^2+5^2
x^2=49+25
x^2=74
x=root74
x=8.60232...km

hope it help u

The distance he covered is 12 km and his displacement was 8.602 km.

  • Distance is the total length covered.
  • Displacement is the shortest length covered.

In the direction of North, Joey drives = 7 km

In the direction of East, Joey drives = 5 km

For calculating Distance:

Total length covered = (7+5) km

                                    = 12 km

∴ The distance is 12 km.

For calculating Displacement:

Let, the displacement = x

   ∴  Applying the Pythagoras' Theorem, for a right angle triangle,

x² = 7² + 5²

⇒ x² = 49+ 25

⇒ x² = 74

⇒ x = √74

⇒ x = 8.602

∴ The displacement is 8.602 km.
