John constructs various sizes of rectangular desktops. He designs these desktops so that the length is 5 inches longer than the width.

a) Write a linear equation for the perimeter P, in terms of its width, w
b) If the perimeter of the desk is 130 inches, what is the length of the desk?

use area of rec=l*b
p=2(i+b)

a) 
  if P is taken as perimeter, and w as width.
  then the length will be w+5
⇒P=2(w+w+5)=2(2w+5)=4w+10

b) If perimeter is 130 in
    130=4w+10
⇒120=4w
⇒w=30

So the length will be 35 in.
