Let the age of Sam be 'x'
them John's age = 5x

9 ( x + 12 ) = 5 ( 5x + 12 )
9x + 108 = 25x + 60
16x = 48
x = 48/16 = 3
Sam's Age = 3 yrs
John's Age = 5(3) = 15 years

After 12 years their age will be x+12 and 5x+12 respwctively.

Equation:-
x+12/5x+12= 5/9
9(x+12)=5(5x+12)
9x+108= 25x+60
9x-25x= 60-108
-16x=-48
x= -48/-16
x= 3 years, Hence Sam's age is 3 years

Then John's age is 3years×5= 15 years
