present age of John = ( X + 6 ) year's.

1 year ago age of Peter = ( X - 1 ) year's.

1 year ago age of John = ( X + 6 - 1 ) = ( X + 5) year's.

According to question,

X + 5 = 3 ( X - 1 )

X + 5 = 3X - 3

2x = 8

x = 4.

Present age of Peter = x = 4 year's.

and,

Present age of John = x + 6 = 10 year's.
