John tried to melt a white colored solid but on heating it disappeared. He again tried to get a liquid from it but every time he was in vain. Can you help John to understand the reason behind it?

The reason behind it is SUBLIMATION that is change of solid direct into gaseous state without coming into liquid state when heated.The white coloured solid must be phenolphthalein balls.
Phenolphthalien balls undergoes sublimation.
