joseph jogs from on end A to another end B of a straight line 300 m in 2 minutes 50 seconds and then turn around and jogs 100 m back to C in another one minute.What is average speed and velocities (a) from A to B and (b) from A to C

Average speed from A to B

Avg speed (A-B) = Total distance/ total time

t = 2min 50sec = 170 sec

= 300/ 170 = 1.76 m/sec

Average velocity (A-B) = 1.76m/sec

Average speed from A to C

Avg speed (A-C) = AB + BC/ total time

total time = 170 sec + 60 sec = 230 sec

= (300 + 100) / 230

= 400 / 230

= 1.73 m/sec

Average Velocity (A-C) =

Total displacement / total time

total displacement = AB - BC = 300 - 100 = 200m

hence , = 200 / 230

= 0.86 m/sec

Thanks
