he got a profit if Rs3 per pen he sold
profit from 12 such pens is 3X12=36
profit=3/12X100%

He bought
12 pens for 120rupees :
12 Pen = ₹120
1 Pen = ₹120/12 = ₹10
He sold:
1 Pen = ₹15
Profit On 1 Pen
S.P - C.P
15 - 10 = ₹5
Therefore Profit on 12 pens
₹5 × 12 = ₹60
Profit Percent :
(Profit ×100) / CP
60 × 100 / 120
= 50%
12 pens for 120rupees :
