justify the statement-- Atomic size of an element decreases along a period whereas increasing down the group.

The atomic radius decreases in moving from left to right along a period. The number of electrons increases in moving from left to right along a period. Thus, the nuclear charge also increases which tends to pull the electrons closer to the nucleus and reduces the size of the atom.
