The city had a strange ritual to determine a next king, the very next person who will enter the city will name the new king. The person entered was stupid and answered melon to every question, so they crowned melon as their next king. Thus the title totally justify the story.

After the king’s
absurd hanging at his own behest a new king was to be appointed. Now this city had
a bizarre custom of appointing the new king. Any one passing through the City
Gate the next day would elect the king. So when the guards, next morning asked
the first passer-by who must the king be of the city, he replied, “Melon”. This
passer-by was an idiot whose staple answer to all the questions put to him was
“Melon”. Thus a melon was crowned as the new king of that city. Thenceforth the city came to be
known as ‘Melon City’. Since the poem is about the ‘Melon City’, so the title
of the poem is aptly justified.
