Undoubtedly, all the
best sellers are unique books with captivating stories full of heroic and
courageous characters. These stories and characters are very hard to find in
the real life. The Best Seller, by O. Henry highlights the same idea. In
the story we come across John A Pescud, who believes the best seller books
portray unreal characters with unreal melodrama. However, later on we come to
know that he himself is no less than a romantic hero. His chasing Miss Allyn
all the way to her distant town, staying there for three days until he
succeeded in making a proposal, his going to Coketown just to get petunia
flowers for his beloved wife, etc. are acts of romance that is found only in
best sellers. Hence, the title is aptly justified.
