Justify the title “The Unexpected”, an Ella Adkins play.
Ans. As the title speaks, it indicates to something happening all of a sudden, beyond people’s imagination. That is exactly the case in the story “the Unexpected”.
Although Mrs. Parker hides the identity of her son, it is at the end that we come to know that her son s not convicted. Mrs. Parker lied to Tom and Alec. Her son was the warden who stops Joe of further investigation.
It is because of Joe that the actual convict was able to escape. Therefore, it is a twist at the end of the tale which justifies the title of the play.
