Given : Justin has a square pool that measures 7 meters on each side. The pool is surrounded by a cement border that measures 0.5 meters.

To find : area of the cement border

Solution:

Justin has a square pool that measures 7 meters on each side.

=> Area of Square pool = 7 * 7  = 49  m²

The pool is surrounded by a cement border that measures 0.5 meters.

=> Size including Cement border would be

= 7 + 0.5 + 0.5 =  8m  by  8 m

Area including swimming pool & cement border  = 8 * 8  = 64 m²

Area of Cement Border = 64 - 49

= 15 m²

area of the cement border (not including the pool of course) = 15 m²
