\textbf{\underline{Question :-}}

Tortoise live in water as well as on land but still it is not considered as an amphibian, why ??

\textbf{\underline{Answer :- }}

First let's know what are Amphibians ??

• Amphibians are the animals which are adapted to live both on land as well as in water.

• Example :- Frogs, Salamanders etc.

★ What are Reptiles ??

• They have scaly and dry skin and lay eggs on land, which are characterized with soft shell.

Example :- Snakes, Lizards etc.

• The the main difference between amphibians and reptiles is the place where they are born or lay eggs.

• In simple words Amphibians lay their eggs in the water, which automatically means amphibians are born in water.

• Reptiles like tortoise lay their eggs on sand (land).

• Turtles first can't be categorised as amphibians as they lay their eggs on land.

Therefore turtles are considered as Reptiles.
