Kaia rewrote the sum 96+12 as 12(8 +1). She used the same method to rewrite the sum 95+ 15 as 5(19 + 3). Describe her method and tell whether she can use it to rewrite the sum 38+ 11. Explain.

Since we have given that

96+12 is written as 12(8+1)

Similarly,

95+15 is written as 5(19+3)

Her method is taking the common factor from the terms in the each expression and wrote it.

As we can see that in first expression i.e. 96+12

96 and 12 both are factors of 12 .

So, common factor is 12 only ,

Similarly in second expression i.e.95+15

95 and 15  both are factors of 5.

So, common factor will be 5 only.

But in this expression i.e.

38+11

Both 38 and 11 are coprime means they are relative prime . so they do not have any common factor inspite of 1 only.

So, she can't use it to rewrite the sum 38+11.
