Keeping example of a village in Maharashtra [towards successfully adopting rainwater harvesting, appearing in May 2016 TOI issue] in mind, suggest measures for it to be adopted countrywide for a drought free, prosperous country.

Of course, rainwater harvesting should be done so that we save every drop of water. Besides, building small check dams would be very helpful.  This has been done by Tarun Bharat Sangh in Alwar in Rajasthan and the place now has ample water. One could also look at rationing through water ATMs as has been done in a village in Maharashtra.
