If the above condition is implemented as stated, then from Ohm's law,
V = I1*R1 = I2*R2 (Keeping constant voltage)
or, I2 = I1*(R1/R2)
= I1*(R/0.5*R) (Since resistance is halved)
or, I2 = 2*I1
i.e. the current is doubled.
